Markham · SEO
A large share of search in Markham happens in Chinese, and almost the entire local business web is published in English only. That is not a small optimisation, it is a whole side of the market with almost nobody competing in it. Done properly it means research in Chinese and real pages at their own URLs, not a translated copy of the English site.

Markham search market
Markham has one of the largest Chinese-Canadian communities in the country and the search behaviour follows, yet the local business web is overwhelmingly English. A business with genuine Chinese-speaking staff and no Chinese content is competing hard for one half of its market and ignoring the half where the competition is thin and the customer arrives already comfortable.
Doing it properly is a research problem before it is a translation problem. Translating an English keyword list produces the Chinese words for English concepts, which is frequently not what people type. The simplified and traditional question matters for the same reason: Markham has both mainland Chinese and Hong Kong and Taiwanese communities, the vocabulary diverges between them, and the choice signals who you actually serve. Some clinics and firms end up publishing both.
Geography adds a quieter problem. Thornhill straddles the Markham and Vaughan boundary, so a business there is described inconsistently across its own listings and its own site. Unionville, Milliken, Cornell, and Markham Village carry their own searches, and the Highway 7 corporate corridor buys on capability rather than proximity. Sorting out which name goes where is unglamorous and it is usually where the quickest gains are.
How it works
Full scope on the seo page.
Every public page graded against what search engines actually read: the title, the heading, the depth of the copy, the internal links, the schema, and the page speed. The audit becomes the punch list, and you get it in writing before anyone talks about a fee.
Stuffing five terms into one page weakens all five. Each page gets one honest target it can win, drawn from the language real customers use, which is rarely the language the industry uses about itself.
Headings tightened, thin copy made substantial, internal links added between pages that belong next to each other. The page earns its ranking the legitimate way, by answering the question better than the pages above it.
Title tags, meta descriptions, schema markup, image alt text, sitemap, robots.txt, and Core Web Vitals. The plumbing search engines need in order to understand the site, set up once and set up correctly.
Search Console connected, a baseline taken, and a short written note each month for the first quarter on what is moving. Quiet check-ins, no dashboard theatre.
What changes locally
A Markham SEO pass does keyword research in Chinese natively rather than translating an English list, and settles the simplified or traditional question by looking at who your customers already are. The Chinese pages get built at their own URLs with correct hreflang, not as a widget. The English side gets the same treatment it would anywhere: one target per page, thin copy rewritten, and a technical pass over schema, internal links, listing consistency, and Core Web Vitals.
Note
Every engagement starts with a free written audit, including the Markham ones. If we think the budget is better spent somewhere else, we will say so before you commit to anything. See everything we do in Markham.

One page listing forty towns ranks for none of them. A page per neighbourhood gets flagged as spam. The level in between is where local rankings actually live, and almost nobody builds it.
