Web design for small businesses
Web design for Canadian small businesses.
We rebuild small-business websites into ones that ring the phone, fill the calendar, and book the quote. Fixed fee. Four to six weeks. Owner-direct. Free written audit before you commit a dollar.
What we do
We turn tired sites into working sales tools.
Three ways in, one standard for the work: the site has to earn its keep in calls, quotes, and booked jobs.

How an Umber site is built
Everything a service-business site has to do.
Four things every Umber build is graded on — and what they look like when they’re working.
The call button shows up before they tap back.
Most of your customers find you on a phone in a parking lot. Every page is built thumb-first — buttons big enough, calls one tap away, no pinching to read.
Pages open in under two seconds on a phone.
Half of mobile visitors leave a slow site before it even finishes loading. Our last twelve builds score 98 on Google’s mobile speed test. The industry average is 54.
You own the code, the domain, the keys.
No retainers. No locked CMS. When we’re done you have everything — and you can hire anyone you want to work on it next.

Yours forever · hire anyone next
First name they see when they search nearby.
‘Roofer near me’ or ‘dentist near me’ is what wins your next customer. We build every site to rank in the local map pack — so they call you, not the shop two blocks down.

How much does a small-business website cost in Canada?
Most rebuilds land in the low five figures CAD; new builds run a bit higher. Every project is a single flat fee on a one-page proposal — no hourly billing, no retainers, no surprises on the invoice.Do you build on Shopify, WordPress, or something custom?
Most small-business sites we build are custom — a real codebase you own, hosted somewhere fast and cheap. We use Shopify when the business is doing real ecommerce volume, and we'll occasionally touch WordPress when there's a content team that's already trained on it.Can you do branding and a logo as part of the build?
Yes. New Builds include the brand basics — name decisions, logo, voice, type and colour direction — folded into the website work so you ship a coherent identity, not a logo and a separate site that feel unrelated. What if my current site is on Wix or Squarespace?
That's the most common starting point. We rebuild on a real codebase, then migrate every URL with redirects so you don't lose any rankings or links. You usually keep your domain, your email, and your phone number — the rest gets replaced.Do you work with businesses outside Toronto?
Yes. We're a Toronto-based studio working with small businesses across Canada — Vancouver, Calgary, Ottawa, Montreal, and the towns in between. Most of the work happens remotely; on-site visits are possible inside the GTA when a project warrants it.What kinds of small businesses do you usually work with?
Service businesses where one good lead is worth real money: roofers, HVAC, plumbers, dentists, med spas, personal-injury law firms, freight and logistics operators. The pattern is the same — the website needs to ring the phone, fill the calendar, or kick a quote into the inbox.
Ready for a website that works as hard as you do?
Working with founders across time zones. Tell me about your business and what isn’t working—I’ll come back with a scope and a price, usually within a couple of days.
