Does schema markup help with AI search?
Indirectly, and no vendor has confirmed a direct effect. Language models read the visible text of a page rather than its structured data. Schema still matters for AI answers because it feeds the search indexes that retrieval draws on, and because it states facts about a business in a form that cannot be misread.
The indirect path is the real one
Most assistants answer local and commercial questions by querying a search index and summarising the results. Schema influences how that index understands a business, which decides whether the page is retrieved at all. Being retrieved is the prerequisite; nothing downstream matters without it.
Disambiguation is the underrated part
Structured data removes ambiguity about which entity a page describes: this business, in this city, with this phone number, distinct from the four other businesses with a similar name. That certainty is exactly what a model needs before it will state something about a business rather than hedge.
Where the leverage actually is
In the visible copy. A page whose opening sentence states plainly what the business does and where will out-cite a page with immaculate markup and a hero headline reading Crafting Tomorrow's Experiences. Fix the sentence first, then add the markup.
