The best pizza to share with family
A family carry-out shop on 17 Avenue SW in Calgary. Same family in the kitchen since 2014. Order a pie tonight, eat it together.
How we do it
Three days of dough, eight minutes in the oven.
Step 01Dough made every morning
Cold-fermented for three days. Hand-stretched at the bench. We do not freeze and we do not par-bake.
Step 02Fired in the deck oven
Eight minutes at 580°F on stone. You can watch the crust pull from the front counter while you wait.
Step 03Out the door in 25 minutes
Pickup or Calgary inner-city delivery. We close when the dough runs out, usually around 10 p.m. on weeknights.

The family
Two ovens, one family, twelve years on 17 Avenue.
Lucky Pizza opened above a record store in 2014. The first oven was a single deck we drove in from Lethbridge in the back of a pickup truck. The dough recipe is the one my mom wrote on the back of a grocery receipt that summer, and we have not changed it since.
We are a small kitchen. On a busy Friday there are four people on the line and one on the phone. We cook every pie ourselves. If something is not right, we will remake it before you leave, no questions, no receipt.
We do not have a loyalty app. We do not deliver outside of the inner city. If the dough runs out at nine, we close at nine. That has been the deal since the beginning, and so far it has worked.
On the counter

The wood is darker now, and the handle has a slight wobble. It still rolls true.

We deliver to Beltline, Mission, Inglewood, East Village, Downtown, Sunalta, Hillhurst, Sunnyside, Kensington, and Bridgeland. No delivery fee on orders over $40.
